Mother cows out in the pasture often have “babysitters”. It is a mystery how they decide who is going to babysit on a certain day, but the other mamas will nurse their calves in the morning and go out to graze and then to water, often staying out for most of the day then they will come back in the evening and the babysitter will go to water she usually will graze around the area where the calves are during the day, but she will not be very far from them. The calves seem to know to stay close to her until their mamas return.
